ROUND CORNER BREWING RECEIVES RISING STAR AWARD AND BEST LAGER AT INTERNATIONAL BEER CHALLENGE

Melton Mowbray Brewery Claims Eight Awards At International Competition

Round Corner Brewing have returned from the 2023 International Beer Challenge with two of the highest accolades available and another six medals recognising the brewery’s high quality beer.

This year marked the first time the Melton Mowbray based brewery had entered the International Beer Challenge following huge success at other international beer awards over the past few years.

With judging taking place in July and Trophy judging taking place in early September, the brewery only recently learned of its incredible accomplishments, which add to an already impressive medal haul in 2023.

The two most prestigious awards the brewery was awarded were the Glenn Payne Rising Star Award and the Trophy Best Lager up to 5% for Gunmetal, Black Lager.

The Glenn Payne Rising Star Award focuses on breweries that have entered the IBC but have only been in existence for five years or fewer and have not already claimed one of the IBC’s continental awards. Named after a great friend and colleague of the IBC, Glenn was a staunch supporter of the IBC.

Picking up the Trophy Best Lager up to 5% was the breweries’ Gunmetal Black Lager, which is clean and crisp from a long and slow ferment at 9°C with a house lager yeast. An incredible achievement beating a large collection of lager entries. In total nine trophies are awarded in the competition of over 600 entries.

Completing Round Corner Brewing’s medal achievements were:

Gold - Gunmetal, Black Lager – Lagers Category
Gold - 10 Hours In L.A., Pacific Pale Ale – Ales Category
Gold - Frisby, Lager – Lagers Category
Bronze - Follow The Green Line, New Zealand Pale Ale – Ales Category
Bronze – Drovers, Hazy Vermont Session IPA – Ales Category
Bronze – Jandals & Togs, Gluten Free Super Session Pale Ale – Ales Category

Collecting a grand total of eight different awards on the first time of entering is a huge achievement for the Leicestershire brewery and adds to their recent notable achievements at the World Beer Awards. At these awards the breweries’ Beneath The Streets won the World’s Best Zwickl / Pale Kellerbier, along with four country winners and one silver and three bronze medals.

A selection of these beers are still available to purchase, with Gunmetal Black Lager part of the breweries’ Core Range and available all year round at www.roundcornerbrewing.com

Round Corner Brewing's Co-Founder & Brewing Director, Colin Paige said: "We’re delighted to receive these incredible awards and further international recognition of the quality beer we produce here at Round Corner Brewing.

“Gunmetal black lager was the second beer we ever brewed at Round Corner Brewing in November 2018 and the first brew scored our very first international gold medal in early 2019 at the International Brewing Awards, so it has held a special place in our hearts since.

“At the brewery, we are delighted with how this beer always performs to such a high and consistent standard. It’s an unfamiliar style to many in the UK, but Gunmetal black lager is the defining English black lager.

“To also be awarded the Glen Payne Rising Star Award is humbling, and it signifies how hard our Brewers have worked to get great flavour and quality across our whole portfolio of beers. And with an additional five of our beers receiving an award, it really signifies this.”

Round Corner Brewing’s CEO and Co-Founder, Combie Cryan said: “What an incredible achievement, we’re blown away by this news and the addition of these outstanding awards to our already prestigious 2023 collection.

“To have come away with six beers claiming medals was already a wonderful achievement and to then be awarded the Glenn Payne Rising Star Award means so much to us. It recognises the hard work everyone at Round Corner Brewing puts into producing the best quality beer possible.

“This was also recognized with Gunmetal black lager being awarded the Trophy Best Lager up to 5%, which means in the IBC’s eyes it’s the best lager in the world, something we’re more than happy to shout about. It’s such a unique style which after your first sip you’ll wonder why you hadn’t tried it sooner.

“We’ll be celebrating this awesome success with the team and raising a glass of Gunmetal together.”
